Default Mob and Loot question

Hey, I was farming smites earlier today and I was thinking...

Well, in 1 run I agroed a mob of 5 smites. Killed them, got 1 ecto, a gold, money drop and a white. So I run to next mob and kill them too. Similar drops (most notable another Ecto + Gold). Gee, that's quite some drops for 2 seperate mobs eh?

So, another run I agro 3 groups. When they drop, 102g.

I'm wondering if the size of the mob affects the drops, because I've noticed this the past few days. Is it my random luck or is something going on here?

More than likely it's just luck. My guess is loot scaling.. Don't ask me how..

All Random, the anti-nuke code/Farming Code is out from what ANET has said.
Just be thankful you got 2 ectos in a row, that is rare for me now days.

In another thread where people were discussing farming the item for the glacial gloves in GW:EN, it is strongly implied that mob size does have an effect on drops. I don't know for sure but it does seem like I get more drops when I take on small mobs vs big mobs.

I attempted this in UW again today - 3 Ecto's from 3/4-man groups. I tried taking on an 8 man group, and got a white smiting rod.

Maybe it IS just luck, but I'm going to take on minor groups - The skills don't even take that long to recharge.

The factors I know of that can influence loot are:
1)Party size (I know this one didn't affect you.)
2)Mob size
3)Loot scaling

Loot scaling is when the server detects repeated kills of the same type of foe within a proximized amount of time and in response lowers the amount/quality of loot. I'm putting my bets on scaling. But my bets might be faulty, as I never farm and know next to nothing about the UW.
